WATCH: Intergenerational Connections at Journey’s Way for Black History Month
Recently highlighted on 6abc’s Art of Aging segment, PCA supported an inspiring intergenerational event at Journey’s Way in Roxborough to celebrate Black History Month. Center members were paired with 8th-grade students from a West Philadelphia school for a meaningful exchange of stories, experiences, and perspectives.
The event, organized by Center Director Louis S. Smith, Jr., encouraged dialogue through guided questions, an art project, shared lunch, and a game of Bingo. Participants found common ground, discussing music, history, and their personal connections to the community.
PCA’s African & Caribbean Outreach Coordinator, Mark Kendrick, highlighted the importance of such programs in fostering connections between generations. “Getting to know each other helps bridge gaps and strengthen our community,” he said.
With PCA’s support, Journey’s Way continues to provide engaging and interactive programming for older adults. Events like these celebrate history while building relationships that span generations.
