WATCH: Golden Voices, Bright Spirits: PCA Choirs Shine on 6abc’s Art of Aging
PCA’s 3rd annual Golden Voices Festival was recently highlighted on 6abc’s Art of Aging segment, showcasing how music helps older adults celebrate the spirit of the season. Hosted by KleinLife in Northeast Philadelphia, the concert brought together nine choirs from senior centers across the city, including The Stars Choir from the Star Harbor Senior Community Center, Lutheran Settlement House Senior Center Singers, On Lok’s Senior Services Center Choir, KleinLife’s Fargenign Choir, St. Edmond Senior Community Center’s new choir, North’s Golden Notes Choir, and two ensembles from Philadelphia Senior Center: the Avenue of the Arts Choir and the Coffee Cup Choir.
Throughout the segment, choir members and staff reflected on the joy, meaning, and cultural richness the festival brings. Performers described the experience as uplifting, spiritual, and deeply fulfilling, with songs that share history and stories from many cultures. PCA’s Assistant Director of Community Engagement, Esther Lee, emphasized that “music is the powerful tool that bring people together, regardless of the culture or different languages,” while participants shared that singing together helps them feel connected, less lonely, and part of something bigger than themselves.
The Art of Aging feature underscored PCA’s mission to help older adults live independently with dignity by creating opportunities for connection and community life. Events like the Golden Voices Festival help ensure that older adults are seen, heard, and actively engaged. Older Philadelphians who are interested in joining a senior center choir or finding other forms of fellowship can contact PCA’s Helpline at 215-765-9040 or visit PCACares.org to locate a senior center in their neighborhood.
