Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) was recently featured on 6abc’s Art of Aging for a new community initiative that will help older Philadelphians feel safer at home by distributing 1,000 Ring security devices at no cost to eligible residents.

Through a partnership with USAging and Amazon’s Ring program, PCA is providing 500 Ring doorbells and 500 security cameras to older adults in Philadelphia. The initiative supports PCA’s mission to help older adults age in place safely and with greater peace of mind.

During the segment, PCA President and CEO Dr. Najja R. Orr spoke about the importance of helping older adults remain in their homes as safely and independently as possible. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker also voiced support for the pilot program.

Device distribution is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with PCA prioritizing participants in the Dom Care Program, Caregiver Support Program, and Home-Delivered Meal Program, as well as older adults connected to Southwest Senior Center and the Firehouse Active Adult Center.

To be eligible, individuals must:

  • Be 60 or older
  • Live in Philadelphia
  • Have Wi-Fi
  • Have a smartphone to download the Ring app
  • Have an email address to set up a Ring account

The devices are provided free of charge, and eligible participants will also receive a free Ring subscription for the life of the device.

PCA is proud to be part of initiatives like this one that strengthen safety, independence, and quality of life for older adults across Philadelphia.
