PCA’s Grandparents Day Celebration Receives Local Media Spotlight
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s (PCA) recent Grandparents Day Celebration is receiving local media attention, with both Metro Philadelphia and 6abc highlighting the event and the important role grandparents play in families and communities throughout Philadelphia.
The celebration brought together grandparents, grandchildren and families for an afternoon centered on connection, recognition and support. Attendees enjoyed activities, food and opportunities to connect with community organizations and resources designed to support older adults and caregivers.

6abc’s “Art of Aging” Spotlights PCA and Grandfamilies
The celebration was also featured on 6abc as part of its Art of Aging coverage. The segment highlighted PCA’s partnership with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Pennsylvania and showcased resources available to grandparents and other older adults who are raising or helping care for children.
PCA staff spoke with 6abc about the importance of recognizing grandparents for everything they contribute to their families while also making sure they know support is available. The segment highlighted PCA’s Caregiver Support Program, which assists eligible Philadelphia residents age 55 and older who are raising grandchildren or other young relatives in the absence of the children’s parents.
The 6abc feature also showcased the broader network of support represented at the celebration, including information about legal assistance, health benefits, food resources and other services that can help older adults and caregiving families. Families attending the event were also able to enjoy a meal together and take home groceries.

Connecting Grandfamilies to Support
Events like PCA’s Grandparents Day Celebration also provide an opportunity to connect older adults and families with information that can help them navigate caregiving responsibilities.
Grandparents and other older relatives raising children may be eligible for assistance through PCA’s Caregiver Support Program. Depending on individual circumstances, support may include information and assistance, benefits counseling, caregiver education, respite care and other services designed to help caregivers continue supporting their families.
PCA also connects older adults, caregivers and families with a broad range of programs and community resources throughout Philadelphia.
