PCA’s 14th Annual Senior Strut Celebrates Healthy Aging and Community on 6abc
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s (PCA) 14th Annual Senior Strut took center stage in a recent 6abc Art of Aging segment, showcasing a beloved annual tradition that brings older Philadelphians together to celebrate health, wellness and community.
Held along scenic Kelly Drive near Boathouse Row, the event featured a one-mile walk, music from DJ TouchTone, a festive kickoff by Philadelphia’s legendary Mummers and opportunities for participants to connect with friends and neighbors. Attendees also enjoyed health and wellness resources, free vaccinations, informational exhibits and lunch.
The segment featured enthusiastic participants from across Philadelphia, including members of PCA’s senior community centers, who shared how the event helps them stay active, build friendships and strengthen their sense of community.
PCA’s Jennifer Russell, Executive Administrator of Planning, emphasized the importance of physical activity and social engagement in supporting healthy aging.
“The purpose, really, is to create awareness of healthy aging,” Russell shared. “Social connection and staying active is essential to health and wellness as we age.”
The segment also highlighted PCA’s network of 28 senior community centers and satellite meal centers, which offer year-round opportunities for older adults to stay connected, participate in activities and access valuable resources.
