PCA President & CEO joins Governor and PDA Secretary of Aging to unveil 10-Year master plan on aging

Bill Conallen

Najja R. Orr, DBA, FCPP, PCA president & CEO, participated in the release of the 10-Year strategic plan on aging designed to improve services for older Pennsylvanians, alongside Governor Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania Department of Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich as well as representatives from Area Agencies on Aging throughout Pennsylvania, and AARP.

Entitled “Aging Our Way, PA,” this strategic vision is aimed at enhancing services for older Pennsylvanians. Announced at Generations of Indian Valley in Souderton, the plan focuses on creating an age-friendly state by improving healthcare, transportation, housing, long-term care, and social connections for older adults. This roadmap is intended to ensure that services meet the needs of older adults throughout various stages of their lives, addressing their evolving challenges and improving their quality of life.

The need is great as by 2030, the population of Pennsylvanians aged 60 and over is projected to surpass 3.8 million, accounting for 1 in 3 Pennsylvanians, and older Pennsylvanians are expected to outnumber every other age group. Recognizing this rapidly growing population, Governor Shapiro signed an Executive Order in May 2023 directing the Department of Aging (PDA) and other agencies in his Administration to develop a master plan called Aging Our Way, PA.

Pennsylvania is the fifth state to release its master plan on aging, joining California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
