PCA marks Celebrate Arts & Aging kickoff reception in West Philadelphia
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging kicked off its Celebrate Arts & Aging exhibition yesterday with a special reception at West Philadelphia Senior Community Center, marking the center’s first year as one of the program’s exhibit sites. The event brought together artists, guests, staff and community members to celebrate the creativity, talent and stories of older adults from across the Philadelphia region.
Now in its 24th year, Celebrate Arts & Aging is held each May in recognition of Older Americans Month and serves as a powerful reminder that creativity does not retire. This year’s exhibition features approximately 140 submissions from artists ranging in age from 56 to 101, including more than 20 new participating artists. The artwork includes paintings, drawings, prints, photography and other forms of visual expression, each reflecting a unique perspective, memory or lived experience.
The kickoff reception highlighted the important role that community spaces play in making art accessible and bringing people together. As a first-time exhibit site, West Philadelphia Senior Community Center provided a fitting setting for the celebration, offering a welcoming space where older adults gather for connection, learning, friendship and self-expression. The event underscored PCA’s mission to improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians and people with disabilities while recognizing the continued growth, contribution and possibility that aging can bring.
