PCA and Mayor Parker Announce Ring Doorbell Camera Initiative to Help Older Philadelphians Feel Safer at Home
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) hosted an announcement event with Mayor Cherelle Parker at Firehouse Active Adult Center to launch a new community safety initiative. Through a collaboration with USAging and Ring, an Amazon company, PCA will receive 1,000 Ring devices, each with a basic Protect subscription for the life of the donated device, plus a $20,000 donation to support PCA’s mission and ongoing impact across Philadelphia. Remarks during the program emphasized how front door technology can strengthen safety and support independence at home, especially for older adults who may be at higher risk of scams, unwanted visitors, or isolation. Dr. Najja R. Orr underscored PCA’s commitment to helping older Philadelphians remain safe, independent, and connected, and noted that the collaboration can offer added peace of mind for family caregivers while PCA works to get the devices to those who will benefit most.
Device distribution is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with PCA prioritizing participants in the Dom Care Program, Caregiver Support Program, and Home-Delivered Meal Program, as well as older adults connected to Southwest Senior Center and the Firehouse Active Adult Center. PCA Ring Community Program eligibility includes being 60 or older, living in Philadelphia County, and having Wi Fi, a smartphone that can download the Ring app, and access to an email address to set up an account. Patricia Clark, an early recipient and Firehouse Active Adult Center member, shared that the device helps her feel safer by allowing her to see and speak to someone at the door before deciding whether to answer.
