Home, health and hope: Supporting older Philadelphians
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and The Sarah Ralston Foundation hosted an informative event focused on housing stability, behavioral health and supportive services for older adults in Philadelphia.
The program opened with remarks from Najja R. Orr, DBA, FCPP, President & CEO of Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, who welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the complex needs of older Philadelphians.
Featured presentations highlighted innovative programs and partnerships supporting older adults across the city. Representatives from the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services discussed the Philadelphia Model Initiative, which focuses on integrating behavioral health services into long-term care settings. Presenters included Katharine Finlay, MPH, PMP, Consultant, and Amanda David, MSW, LSW, Deputy Commissioner of the Behavioral Health Division.
The event also featured a presentation on the Philly House Senior-Level Housing Program by Mike Johnson, Director of Development, as well as an overview of Urban Resources and Development Corporation’s Home Strong Program by Mark Trent, Minister at Canaan Baptist Church of Germantown.
Following a short break, attendees participated in a panel discussion moderated by Heather Finnegan, Executive Director of The Sarah Ralston Foundation. Panelists shared insights on housing-related challenges and available supports, including foreclosure prevention, eviction prevention and homeless services. Speakers included Ava Obrecht, Esq., Staff Attorney at Face to Face Germantown; Shawanda Clements III, Housing Supervisor at Center in the Park; and Dianne Johnson, Chief Program Officer at Broad Street Love.
The event concluded with an audience Q&A, networking and lunch, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with community partners and learn more about resources that help older adults remain safe, supported and housed.
