Celebration of sisterhood, health, and community at the Firehouse Active Older Adult Center

John Deangelis

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, the Firehouse Active Older Adult Center hosted a delightful event, “Tea Party: Women Helping Women.” The event saw a turnout of 40 community members who came dressed in their finest dresses, hats, and gloves, ready to enjoy a tea party complete with games, pastries, teas, and sandwiches.

The tea party was not just a social gathering but also an empowering event focused on key issues in women’s lives, such as sisterhood, health, faith, and family. The event featured spoken word by Cherri Belcher and presentations from Minister Rosemary Hammond and special guest, Dr. Ala Stanford, MD, Author, Surgeon and former Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services of the Mid-Atlantic. The event also welcomed Sharlene Waller, the newly appointed director of the Mayor’s Commission on Aging.

The “Tea Party: Women Helping Women” was a resounding success, leaving attendees feeling inspired, connected, and supported. The Firehouse Active Older Adult Center looks forward to hosting more events that continue to empower and uplift the community.
