Watch: 6abc Features PCA’s Caregiver Support Program

Bill Conallen

PCA’s Caregiver Support Program was recently featured on 6abc’s Art of Aging, highlighting the vital support it offers to grandparents and other older relatives who are raising children. The segment follows Ollie Tansimore, who has been caring for his 11-year-old granddaughter for most of her life and found reassurance, structure, and financial relief after enrolling in PCA’s Caregiver Support Program.

In the story, Caregiver Support Program Supervisor Amy McVeigh explains that PCA assists several types of caregivers: those supporting older adults age 60+, adults age 55+ caring for a relative child, and adults age 55+ caring for an adult with a disability. Support can include reimbursement for school supplies, seasonal clothing, and extracurricular activities—helping caregivers stretch their budgets while making sure children can thrive.

Every caregiver in the program is paired with a dedicated care manager who works closely with them to create an individual plan of care, answer questions, and help with tasks like paperwork and planning for the future. There is no waitlist for services, and a care manager interview can typically begin within two weeks of a call to PCA’s Helpline. Care managers also help older caregivers navigate worries about their own aging, from legal planning to long-term stability for the children they love.

The segment underscores how PCA’s Caregiver Support Program improves quality of life for both caregivers and children by offering practical help, emotional support, and a trusted partner in care.
