Senior community centers receive state grants

Four Philadelphia senior community centers are among those receiving grants from the Pennsylvania Lottery. Gov. Tom Wolf announced the recipients yesterday of the 2016-17 Senior Community Center Grants, which total $2 million and will be distributed to 38 centers throughout the commonwealth. The Philadelphia recipients are Lutheran Settlement House Senior Center, On Lok Social Service Center for Seniors, Philadelphia Housing Authority Wilson Park Satellite and West Philadelphia Senior Community Center. The facilities are among the 20 senior centers and eight satellite meal sites PCA supports. The sites serve as a gateway for connecting older adults to vital community services; their offerings include nutritious meals, educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, exercise classes and social and recreational activities. There are more than 500 centers across the 67 counties in Pennsylvania. The grants are designed to help them increase participation and provide innovative programs that attract a new generation of older Pennsylvanians.
