Dr. Ala Stanford to receive the Rodney D. Williams Award at PCA’s 2024 Enriching Lives, Preserving Dignity fall fundraiser on September 12
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) will bestow the inaugural Rodney D. Williams Award for Excellence in Service and Leadership to Dr. Ala Stanford, founder of the Black Doctors Consortium and the Ala Stanford Center for Health Equity (ASHE), at its fall fundraiser on September 12.
The award honors the legacy of Rodney D. Williams, whose vision and leadership led to PCA’s growth since its founding in 1973. Rodney’s passion for creating and expanding services for the diverse groups of older adults and people with disabilities in Philadelphia is inherent in the values that we continue to uphold. It is fitting that Dr. Stanford is the first recipient of the award, as Rodney and her achievements remind us of the power of connection to our roots and giving back to the communities that shape us.
Dr. Stanford has recently been named a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she will educate undergraduates in health equity issues. Her new book, “Take Care of Them Like My Own” is a moving and compelling account of the health inequity and racial injustice that is still prevalent in the U.S. today.
About The Event
PCA’s 2024 Enriching Lives, Preserving Dignity fall fundraiser will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the panoramic 6th floor of PCA headquarters at 642 North Broad Street.
Proceeds benefit the Rodney D. Williams Philadelphia Fund for Seniors, which supports the vital, basic services that PCA provides to help older adults maintain their maximum levels of health and productivity, and age in place in the community.
Since 1973, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s (PCA) legacy of impact has grown to over 30 programs that value and support older Philadelphians as they age. The need is great. Philadelphia consistently is among the cities with the highest proportion of older persons (age 60+) living in poverty in the U.S.
