Martin Luther King Day of Service 2010
The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine will celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday January 18th, 2010. As a commitment to the Philadelphia community, the School plans to host a free dog and cat vaccination clinic for pet owners who may not ordinarily have easy access to veterinary services.
The clinic will run through the morning and early afternoon at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital in West Philadelphia on Monday, January 18, 2009. The hospital is located at 39th and Spruce streets. On-site parking is available. The clinic will run by appointment only. I would ask parishioners who plan to attend to call the hospital’s appointment desk at 215 898 4680 to schedule an approximate appointment time (9am-10am; 10am-11am; 11 am-12 noon, 12 noon-1pm) for their visit. This will keep waiting time to a minimum.
This vaccination clinic will help decrease the incidence of many preventable infectious diseases, including rabies, in the pet animal population. We hope that this clinic will raise the community’s awareness of the importance of appropriate veterinary care and promote the importance of animals in society.
We will also be offering very low-cost permanent identification for dogs and cats in the form of an implanted microchip, for $10. Identification of pet dogs and cats is essential for successful return to owner should they escape the home and become strays.
